The Music Reference Single Ended Line has the following technical advantages that should be considered carefully. These circuits are based on new applications for traditional tubes that generally result in twice the power of older applications currently used by other makers. Roger Modjeski has designed all the circuits, all the transformers and wound all the prototypes in order to optimize the windings on our in-house winding machines.

We encourage other makers to disclose their measurements of hum, noise, distortion and damping. Over the years we have developed standards for our amplifiers so that you will not experience any shortcomings in the following areas. You will never hear hum at the listening position and in most cases will have to press your ear to the speaker to hear any. When selecting an amplifier maker, we urge you to request and compare these important factors that will most assuredly influence your system. Below, our standards for the amplifiers we make and how they affect your listening experience.

  • Hum and noise less than 0.5 mV (wideband). The very few amps we see with specs at all are in the 2-3 mV range. That is 12 to 15dB higher than our maximum and quite audible on sensitive speakers.
  • Damping factor: The 245 and 245.1 have adjustable damping from 1 to 8 selected by the rotary switch in the center. All our amps have deep, well defined, solid bass with good pitch resolution.
  • Distortion less that 5% at stated power and less than 1% in the first watt. Symmetrical clipping and good overload recovery. Our push-pull amps are less than 1% distortion at full power.
  • High sensitivity so a CD player with volume control or passive preamp is all you need. We offer a line of passives (see www.tubeaudiostore.com) and phono preamps on MR site.
